Case Study: Liz Brunner

It's explicitly the fact that I split my time among many things that gives me the point of view to know that what I'm doing is relevant.” - Virgil Abloh

If you’re a multi-hyphenate, a person with several professions or skills, the possibilities to grow are endless. But the direction in which to create that growth can seem daunting and it might feel overwhelming to know what steps to take to get there. With a creative consultant, especially one focused on brand strategy and development, aligning those steps to goals and measurable outcomes can begin to bring those steps into focus.

In the case of Liz Brunner, a former (and award-winning) news anchor, even the word “multi-hyphenate” seems like an oversimplification. Since her days on WCVB, she has created an executive communications consulting firm, positioned herself as a keynote speaker, become an award-winning author, a highly-sought after executive coach and podcast host. And that’s just since 2013. Since 2020, we have been honored to have been her creative support for social media direction and management, create her business strategy, suggest website updates and more. Here’s how we’ve done it…

The homepage created in partnership with Victoria & Co. Digital, a fellow Boston-based branding agency that specializes in empathy driven design.

In the beginning, it was simply social media, however, there was nothing “simple” about it.

Through the hustle and bustle of deciding how to connect themes and patterns to build a consultancy on efficient communication and storytelling, it became clear that internal and external positioning needed to be formalized in order to understand measurable goals and impact. From content creation and basic reporting came strategy sessions and some administrative projects that would make it clear who, what and how, Liz and her team served her clients. The core purpose that initially fueled her brand’s journey was strong, but it needed more. As a creative consultant, we acted as a mirror, reflecting key foundational values and reminding her of her mission at every step, bringing an external perspective to illuminate blind spots. We created a reporting structure to measure month-over-month growth for every marketing vertical to better understand growth and opportunities and we determined ways in which we could both outsource certain tasks for our highest and best use in order to dedicate our most valuable asset, time, to solely our zones of genius and execution in the areas we needed most.

What has been born out of our nearly four years of work together, includes; an elevated social presence of over 15.3k followers on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest and YouTube, a book launch and cross-country tour, new website, over 69k podcast downloads for her award-winning show, two branding shoots and over 570 hours of strategic support.

Make no mistake, Liz’s success is not a result of luck but rather hard work and dedication to her craft and her message. Like the recipe for her favorite cookies, the measurements of her passion, our strategic insights and coffee over what we should do next, is what has made this work so successful and rewarding.
